Beetlejuice Minimates
Diamond Select
I've been collecting Minimates on and off since 2002. It started with Marvel and DC, but expanded into some of my favorite film properties like Ghostbusters and Back to the Future. They are small, 2-inch figures with a fair amount of articulation, lots of part swapping and customization potential, and can offer a larger amount of characters at a lower price. I picked this Beetlejuice set up sometime last year from Toys R Us before it went belly up. What a better way to start the month of October than with a dead toy chain and the "Ghost with the Most?!"
The four pack with Beetlejuice, Lydia, and Adam and Barbara Maitland will run you $20-25 and can still be found online various places. Tuxedo Beetlejuice with Otho was a Toys R Us exclusive and might be a little trickier to track down now.
Accessory wise, you get alternate "gruesome" heads for Barbara and Adam (with eyeball fingers as well), alternate "carnival" arms and headpiece for Beetlejuice, and clear stands for all the figures. Otho has an alternate "scared" head, but it's kind of pointless without the tacky blue polyester suit.
Attention Kmart shoppers...wait...Kmart is dead now, too?! |
I had a few of the old Kenner Beetlejuice figures from back in the day to throw in with this review...man, what a strange toyline for kids! You just don't see that kind of stuff happening today. Gotta love the excess of the 80s!

These are quite cool. Other than Ghostbusters, which I have a fairly complete Minimates collection of, my Minimates collection is fairly small. These are quite cool, though, and somehow passed me by. I love how often Diamond gives you alternate hands and heads to achieve very scene specific looks.
