Odds and Ends

Trying to play catch up here.  It's been a busy spring, collecting toys across various lines:

The Disney Mirrorverse mobile game is still going somehow, and so is the toyline from McFarlane.  The scale offering shave always been confusing...some in 7 in, some more in the 4-5 inch range.  I had to buy a box set with a 7 inch Goofy and 5 inch Genie (already having the smaller Goofy and the larger Genie) just to get Scrooge McDuck (smaller scale).  The steampunk look is neat, and it looks like he flat out stole the Rocketeer's jetpack for this adventure!  He scales well with the PhatMojo and Disney Toy Box ducks.

The Outlaw skeleton cowboy from Boss Fight Studios is lots of fun, but I wish he were a smaller scale to work with my Dime Novel Legends cowboys.

McFarlane's Batman and Robin movie figures all look fantastic.  This is is first go at Poison Ivy period, and I think she is the stand out sculpt.  Too bad she's the weakest part of that film overall!  

Random McDonald's merch:  old cup, Funko burger and Speedee.  Again, hate Pops, but these actually look like the real deals.  Kirwin Frost McNugget Buddies stand in the back, still beloved spoils from the holiday season past.  My army of Changeables grows!  Just a few more to go, then they can join the Autobots and Decepticons in my Transformers collection.  Best Happy Meal toys ever.

A Disney Parks exclusive Indiana Mickey I picked up cheap at Planet Comicon Kansas City.  Hard to believe we arent that far past the newest Indy movie and we're back to scrounging for old relics....sad.  Oh, hey, and I broke down and got a Toony Terror Elvira since NECA refused to do a decent scale any other way.

Masters of the Universe Origins is dying down, but the Ninja Turtles have arrived to save the day.  I like this goofy mashup best of all the Turtles collaborations, and there have been some strange ones!  Mutated Ram Man is currently my favorite sculpt.

Jazwares

As I said before, Jazwares is killing the 6-inch figure game with figures from a video game that I have never played.  Great, old-school Marvel Legends articulation (Toy Biz, yo) with tons of accessories and funky character designs.  I use the line primarily as goon army builders and placeholders in my DC/Marvel collections.  But some that don’t fit there are just too fun to pass up.  Like Ralphie (aka Rabbit Raider) and Beef Boss here.

Would you like fries with that?  Super-size for only 39 cents more?

I love fast food.  McDonald’s in particular.  So a figure with a McD-inspired burger puppet head, Ronald-esque bright colors, and a giant spatula weapon is an instant win.  No waiting for this one to go to clearance...I needed him now!  He shares the basic soldier body type that many of the other Fortnite characters have, but get a load of the sesame seeds sprinkled throughout!

NO.  SPECIAL. ORDERS!!!

Along with the spatula, he is armed with a wicked looking assault rifle, two pistols, a plate with a slice of cake, and a giant French fry backpack.  My favorite detail is the holster on his backside that has non removable ketchup and mustard bottles.  Man, I wish I still had some of those old Happy Meal Fry Guys toys to stand with him as henchmen.

“I knew you’d ketchup to me sooner or later.  How I relished this meeting.”

While he looks nothing like the character Batman the Animated Series or his comic look, thematically I think he makes an excellent stand-in for the Condiment King.  If not him, at least he checks the 60s comics gimmick of the week box.  He would definitely fit in the Tick’s universe...if only there were modern Tick action figures.  Oh well, I still had fun recreating one of my favorite Batman TAS moments with him:

“Come, Batman...let’s see if you can cut the mustard.”

It's been a long time since there was a good Happy Meal promotion.  Even longer since the last Super Mario Happy Meal toys I collected.  Even though I would prefer just standard figurines, these all have some pretty fun action features.  Like Mario here...he has a button on the bottom of his stand that, when the figure is lifted, makes the classic jumping sound effect from the games.  Neat!  Nice sculpt and paint for a fast-food premium, too!

Luigi can be loaded and launched from this pipe.  He has wheels on his underside to give him some rolling distance, but the power on this one is pretty disappointing.  He might get 6 inches to a foot depending on the surface.

Princess Peach (or Princess Toadstool, as she used to be known in the original English manual translation and Super Mario Bros. Super Show) is the weakest of this bunch.  She is attached to a base with a Mushroom Kingdom backdrop.  There are wheels on the bottom that, when rolled forward or backward, make Peach spin in a circle.  Not all that exciting.  I guess you can at least get some dignified, royal waving going on.

Bowser is a block of a figure.  He comes with two fireball projectiles.  Why two?  Because there are two Mario brothers to toast, of course! What's more important is that, unlike Luigi, these things have some power behind them.  Maybe more than 3 feet!  Die plumbers!

Yoshi is here to finish off the set.  Push down on his shell, and his tongue sticks out.  Exciting, right? Game accurate at least.  I never really cared for Yoshi as a game mechanic, and my feelings toward him really took a dive after the awesome Yoshi's Island: Super Mario World 2 was followed by the deplorable Yoshi's Story.  I only got this figure because the size is almost in scale with the World of Nintendo 4-inch poseable figures, and it's impossible to get Mario to ride on the standing figure in that line.  

Giddyup!

As a little bonus review, here a two 2.5-inch World of Nintendo 8-bit figures that I picked up recently.
The ever-annoying Toad is here to tell you "your princess is in another castle"...and what's more, he looks like he's flipping you the double-bird!  You little @#?*!  Star Power Luigi has a cool pearlescent sheen like the Star Power Mario I reviewed a couple months back.  Obviously, these figures are not articulated.  They're barely three-dimensional:  if you flip them over, you get a flat, black back.  Great for a desktop display if nothing else, and not all that expensive.  I've got several 8-bit Marios and Links, a Donkey Kong, and now these...here's hoping for classic Bowser soon!
