Popeye and the Pirate Ship

Pirate Ship
Toys R Us Exclusive - Chap Mei Real Heroes
featuring Mezco Popeye figures - 2001

Toys R' Us has joined Davy Jones' locker, but not before I could make one last pillage for a deep discount on this Pirate Ship set from their "Real Heroes" line.  I am more sad about this Chinese import line (along with their military, dinosaurs, vikings, knights, etc, sublines) not having a home in the US anymore.  While they are cheap in nature, (not having to shell out for name brand licensing) the play value is through the roof.  I got a big ship (that has a wheel-rolling feature to simulate bobbing up and down with the waves), a couple of pirates, a monkey, a parrot, a slew of weapons, a treasure chest (that works with a crank-operated pulley to get it onboard), firing cannons, and a scary, skull-rock formation (which I gave a better, brown paint wash) for $25.  That's half-price, but even at $50 you get quite a bang for your buck.  Their stuff works best with 3.75 in scale figures...most of which I use for Indiana Jones locales.  More on that in a future review...

For now, please enjoy a showcase of this neat playset featuring Popeye the Sailor Man!  These figures are 5-in scale from Mezco, 2001.  They are pretty rare today.  So happy to have them because Popeye is badass!
